   Lecture with Trunk Show

Quilt Guild Program-Lecture with Trunk Show--My first program as a speaker consists of an overview of my piecing system, Flip-Flop Paper Piecing, and the story of how it was developed, illustrated by a Trunk Show of 15-20 quilts or quilted projects. I also tell the unlikely story of how I found a publisher for my technique and became a first-time author.  My second program consists of an overview of the many applique techniques quilters use, illustrated by my own quilts as examples, finishing with my Turned-Edge Machine Sewn technique (see Applique workshop below). Presentations last from 30-60 minutes, your choice.

  Workshops

Flip-Flop Paper Piecing--an introduction to Flip-Flop Paper Piecing, a new single-foundation paper-piecing system. Three of the 13 techniques in Flip-Flop Paper Piecing are presented with 1-2 blocks constructed in each technique: The Basic Flip-Flop (the key to the system), Say Goodbye to the Y (the construction of a Y-seam style of block with the Y-seam eliminated), and Ring Around the Circle with Partial Seam Piecing (the use of a single paper foundation to simplify partial seam piecing). Each student will construct a minimum of three 6" blocks (Birds in the Air, Attic Windows, & Twist) and a maximum of five (the extras being The Four Knaves & Big O)  6-8 hour workshop.

Say Goodbye to the Y--an in depth coverage of the Flip-Flop Paper Piecing technique that allows the quilter to eliminate the Y seam from all block construction.  Attic Windows & Jewel are constructed in the 6" size. Blocks not featured in the book are presented, and the student will learn how to convert them from traditional piecing to Flip-Flopped Wonders. The final "block" will be several abutted Attic Windows all constructed in one row on one single foundation.  6-8 hour workshop

Advanced Flip-Flop Paper Piecing--2" miniature blocks are constructed, including the complex-looking Indian Meadows and a strip of abutted Attic Windows, all pieced on a single, undivided foundations.  6-8 hour workshop

Mary Kay's Turned-Edge Machine Applique--teaches a technique that looks handsewn.  Other features are easy applique assembly, automatic trapunto, elimination of shadowing, fray control at clips, and simultaneous quilting & applique.  Technique learned by constructing a wall hanging featuring every shape used in applique (circle, line, dip, stem, and multiple points from the dullest to the sharpest of tips).  When completed, the student will be ready to applique any shape, any design.  6-8 hour workshop
